About me

That’s me hanging off the edge of the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada. There’s no analogy for how this relates to design. It’s
just the coolest picture I have.

I am an accomplished content designer. Experienced user-centred designer. Developing interaction designer. And aspirational service designer. I am a multi-disciplinary designer practising user-centred design (UCD) in the public sector and designing services to help people meet their needs and ultimately, achieve their goals.

I specialise in designing content for different platforms. In this capacity, I create essential solutions that find the balance between both user needs and business requirements.

I have over 10 years of experience working in the public and private sectors. My recent work has taken place primarily in the public sector. Here, I have worked for executive and non-executive agencies within the UK Government as well as with the Scottish Government.

My skill set is wide-ranging and includes:

  • designing user-centred content for different online and offline platforms

  • writing easy-to-read content in plain English that is understandable for all user groups

  • expertise in understanding complex services

  • developing user flows, service maps and blueprints

  • designing user experiences, enabling people to successfully access and use products and services

  • creating prototype products based on design solutions to test with users

Understanding the intricacies of how things work. Comparing this against fixed requirements. Taking this knowledge and turning it into a user-led solution while still designing easy to read content. These aspects are all of equal importance to me in designing. They lead my thought process when creating and delivering solutions to help people and meet their needs.

All users should always be the focus of everything we design. Regardless of what the solution is.

Design thinking and approach

A user-centred designer balances both user needs and business requirements in equal measure. And in turn, creates design solutions that ultimately satisfy both user groups. This is the challenge that drives me as a designer. From this comes the motivation to deliver intuitive, usable and understandable design work driven by viability and practicability.

Closer to home, and as a content designer, I say confidently that content matters. The world is built on the written word. It's how we communicate with each other. And this is the fundamental bedrock of everything we do daily. It's how we continue to evolve. It should be simple, easy to read and understandable to everyone. Couple content with design and you have the means for how we interact with each other. These should be solutions that allow us to continue growing together.
